Ohio! Here we are!

Ohio! Here we are!

Life has a way of bringing us full circle. Recently, we moved back to the east side of the country to be closer to our parents in Toronto. Being near family has always been important to us, and now, it feels even more meaningful as our family has grown in unexpected and wonderful ways.

Two New Family Members

While settling into this new chapter, we welcomed not just one but two new members to our family. First came Angela, a resilient little Russian Blue kitten we rescued on the side of the road. She quickly became a part of our home, bringing both comfort and chaos in equal measure.

Then, the greatest joy of all arrived—our baby girl, Sierra. We named her Sierra because most of her gestational journey happened while we lived in California, surrounded by the beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains. She’s our little adventurer, already at home in our ever-moving life.

Our Ohio Home: A Gateway to Everywhere

Our new home in Ohio has turned out to be more than just a place to settle. It’s the perfect “gate” to so many adventures. From here, we’ve found ourselves perfectly situated to explore the heart of the Midwest, reconnect with the East Coast, and venture down to the South.

For example, we often head to Minnesota for doctor’s check-ups. It’s become a regular part of our routine, but those drives across the Midwest always hold a sense of adventure. Ohio also feels like a launchpad back to the East Coast, with New York just a drive away.

And recently, we set our sights on the South, driving to Knoxville, Tennessee. It was a trip to remember! We were lucky enough to stumble upon their Christmas parade, and what a parade it was—so Tennessee!

The creativity we saw was beyond anything we expected. School buses, trucks, and tractors were transformed into rolling works of art. One of the most interesting sights was a truck on another truck while towing yet another truck. A true engineering marvel! And let’s not forget the tractors pulling trailers of party seats, filled with people cheering and celebrating the season. It was charming, fun, and so unmistakably southern. We saw similar scenes in Nashville, which only added to the experience.

Talkin’ About Tennessee

Speaking of Tennessee, we once found ourselves driving straight into the eye of the storm in Dickson, Tennessee. It happened while we were heading back to California from New York. At first, everything was calm, but suddenly, around 4:30 pm local time, the sky turned an ominous dark. Within moments, there was lightning, a massive downpour of rain, and then hail—lots of it! It was an incredibly scary experience, but thanks to our trusty 4Runner, we made it through safely. That drive is something we’ll never forget!

Looking Ahead

This move, this season of life, feels like the start of something big—a time for growing, exploring, and reconnecting with what matters most. Being close to family, discovering new places, and building memories with our little Angela and Sierra has already made it special.

Ohio may be our home base for now, but it feels like so much more: a gateway to the places we’ve been and the adventures still to come.

Hello and Goodbye 2022

Hello and Goodbye 2022

This year has been interesting. We moved from New York to California with our household goods in a small trailer.  The journey to California was long, especially with our three kitties, a Mastiff pup, and our baby girl. We drove through so many national parks and saw the true beauty of America.

One month later, my son joined us in California. He is so excited to start his life in a new environment until his bad experience with the school. The school had a lot of rules, even for a three-year-old. Every day when he came home, he was not happy because the teachers forced him to do too many things he did not like. This eventually led to selective mutism. At first, we thought something was going on with his head, but the MRI result was good. The doctor could not figure out what exactly is wrong with him. As a result, our family believes this must have something to do with his emotions. We brought him back to Toronto, and guess what! Kieran is talking again! Look how happy Kieran is with his little aunt and sister!

We are currently back in our old house in NY. It is really cold here compared to sunny California! We visited NYC yesterday and spent a night there. My Mastiff pup, Iris, loved Central Park despite the cold. She gave me a huge hug at the end of our walk at the top of the stairs of the metropolitan museum of art!

I also made a series of Christmas Greeting cards for our babies. Aren't they just adorable beyond words!?

Moving to the West

Moving to the West
Hi, Internet! It's been a while since I last posted. Our family has been busy moving from the east coast to the west coast. It was quite an experience. We drove through many national parks on the way. The whole family enjoyed the 10-day road trip! We experienced numerous geographical changes from sky-high Colorado mountains to Utah sand dunes and from the extreme mountain top cold to the extreme desert heat. We finally made it to our final destination, the expensive Silicon Valley! Our new journey awaits!

On our way to Sequoia National Park

Jimmy's taking a picture of Iris in Death Valley

Found burros having midnight snacks in Death Valley

Modeling in Canyonlands National Park

We saw some of Colorado's bighorn sheep

At Colorado National Monument

Somewhere in Bryce Canyon NP

Waking up in Capitol Reef NP

Driving with our fur babies and baby girl, we were still able to reach several national parks. I am very proud of our driver, Jimmy! We also had a little trailer in the back carrying our household goods and the trailer tires broke when we reached near LA. Good timing! We had so much fun and learned so much on the way. We will definitely continue our Wild Wild West adventures. Will keep you posted!

Happy Days

Happy Days

Next week marks the last week of my second trimester. I am already so big, so I am not sure how big this time I will get. The hunger situation is real. I've been craving for peanut butter crackers and the chickens from Chick-fil-A. I have also learned to buy snacks on Amazon Fresh, which will be delivered right to my door. You see, I am expecting myself to be a chubby and clumsy mama bear soon again.

My son is still with his grandparents. He is so happy with his auntie Emma. They are having so much fun together. My baby is a naturally civil engineer. Well, he might have gotten his talent from his great great great great grandpa, Zhan Tianyou.  He can recognize shapes very well and put his blocks together without falling apart. He is a little boy of many talents just like his dada. I am very proud to be his mama.

Jimmy recently saved two baby sparrows from our backyard. We successfully hatched them and now we are officially their adoptive parents. Jimmy is really good at feeding the babies. I also learned how to take care of them while Jimmy is away. In the meantime, our dog is getting used to the big city. She is very gentle now. We can even walk her on the streets! Here we went for a walk in Duke. It is a quite decent Japanese garden we have nearby!

My Baby is Almost One

My Baby is Almost One
I have not updated my blog for a very long time because life got a little busy. In these few months, we traveled to several places from the north to the south of the United States and across the ocean. New York and Toronto are covered under snow but we are in the forever green Taiwan! I am loving the food here. There will always be food on the streets in this part of Taiwan we are staying!

On the other hand, my baby is staying in Canada with our parents. He has grown so much and is almost walking by himself! He is loving his kids shows on TV and playing with car toys! I miss him so much! His first birthday is coming up soon! I can't wait to celebrate his first with him! He is a happy baby! He is always smiling! 👶 Here goes some pictures of this month! 💓💓

My 8-Month-Old Baby
It's crazy how time passes by so fast! He is officially 8-month-old! I am so proud to be his mom! Let's quickly summarize his past fun two months!
  • He loves to make music, dance, and play on the computer!

Computers are amusing!
  • He traveled to the Midwest once again, but this time with the whole family. While in the hotel, he tried out the swimming pool. He loved the little water park. He also observed how I swam. He later copied me using his little legs to kick in the water. Super cute! Of course, on the road, we traveled through some big cities of the Midwest! His granny said he left his smell aka his diaper in every major city of the Midwest!

  • He is now on solid food. He hates baby food, but loves real food! He loves his spaghetti, plums, oranges, strawberries, scrambled eggs, meat balls, and oh yes, bananas! Every time when he eats these, he puts a big smile on his face!
This smile is priceless!
B A N A N A!
  • On his first day of being a 7-month-old baby, he called me mama. OMG. That was precious. His voice and his calls immediately melt my heart. I could not stop from smiling. I was way too happy!

Six Months of Adventure

 Six Months of Adventure
My baby Kieran is officially 6-month-old today. He currently weighs 21 lbs! He has many first times in these wonderful six months of his life! Let me highlight some milestones!

- He is quite a traveler. He has traveled through 66% of the American states and he is still working on it. His favorite state so far is probably Florida (his daddy's favorite, too)!  He has experienced a Polar Vortex in the Mid-West at the beginning of 2019 and saw sun dogs! He has seen palm trees and beach waves in Florida!

Happy family in Florida!
- He experienced the heat and a trip to the ER in McAllen, TX.  This was when he took his first flight to Texas! He did a good job and had fun on the terminal trams.

- He had his first party at our house. Auntie and uncles traveled all the way from Canada to visit Kieran. He also got some Dr. Seuss books and an NSAS space suit! Just a few weeks later, he joined an Indian baby shower party!

- He also went camping and played on the beach for the first time! That was also his first time crossing the border to Canada. He had a lot of Canadian uncles and aunties to hold him on the camp site. He was so spoiled. He did not get a single mosquito bite. Thanks to me (I was massacred by them)!

- Skill-wise, he is able to sit by himself. He likes to talk to us even though we don't understand his baby language. He can eat solid food now. So proud of him that he is able to feed himself. He also loves to jump in his jumper.

- In daycare, he loves to play with other babies. They played with mud together on Mud Day! Since they share their toys, they share their viruses. Kieran had his first fever and first ear infection on the first day of being a six-month-old baby.

- Most importantly, his bottom teeth are coming out! He is growing fast!
